As a counselor, one of the staple office supplies we have is tissues. Actually, there is a special cabinet for them in the workroom as folks shed a lot of tears in counseling. This past week, I found this drawing on the table in the waiting area. What caught my eye is it was drawn on you guessed it...a tissue.

A tissue. A symbol of tears, grief, sadness and troublesome issues...but on this one, instead, is something beautiful. Just a reminder that in our tears the Lord is painting something beautiful.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02527020128508991635noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8908774328600356952.post-671365595335266602014-01-16T20:05:00.000-08:002014-01-16T20:18:08.870-08:00Life is a Matter of Perspective

Over Christmas break I was able to spend time with family which allowed me to recharge, laugh till I cried playing Balderdash and reflect on the year. Even as I return home life has taken a new set of turns and twists as I consider what God might have for me over the coming year.
I really liked the reflection of my sister Brittany in this shot taken over the break as we took the train up to Pike's Peak. It reminds me that life is about perspective, this photo has two perspectives. We have choices regarding which perspective we choose to see something. In light of the circumstance or in light of who God is in the midst of our circumstances. Happy New Year!
These shots are taken of the talented Josie, a fearless social worker who is saving the world one progress note at a time. She and I had a blast taking a creative journey through barns,
frolicking in the grass and making up stories about a local tree (we
named Earl). Our time was a reminder for me
that taking pictures should be full of spontaneity and laughter. Thanks Jesus for a fun and productive time and go Josie :) Cool to see your beauty shine inside and out in these photos.
Took this picture of someone as they relaxed during a break.I loved how the sun would stream in the room during certain points of the day. Good food, wild missionary stories, counseling and a cozy fireplace. Yeah...I met a few kindred spirits or two.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02527020128508991635noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8908774328600356952.post-57253897298393819152013-11-03T19:55:00.000-08:002014-08-07T19:30:03.117-07:00Bryan is going to be a missionary

Pictures I took of my friend Bryan White, who recently has said yes to on the missions field with SIM, a missions organization in Charlotte. We celebrated by taking pictures for her support cards. This picture was taking in a house of some of our friends. Thanks guys...we broke in your house sorta cause we like your map. It is awesome.

Wanted to send a huge thanks to all who prayed and gave financially towards this trip. Our team had a great time serving about 140 street children alongside of Abby Tracy, her husband David and their team. We had a wonderful time loving these kids during camp though at times was a challenge because they are operating out of survival mode due to life on the street. However, we hear their experience at camp greatly impacted their lives as several accepted Jesus in their heart and Abby's programs have increased in size since camp. Above is a short clip capturing some of the scenery, our time with the children and you may even see me holding an interesting animal!

Several mentioned that they forgot or were unable to donate towards the trip before I left. Have no fear there is still a need as I am still raising the final amount for my trip. If you would like to contribute, please mail checks to Providence Baptist Church 6339 Glenwood Avenue Raleigh, NC 27612. You may make your check out to Providence Baptist Church and place a sticky note on the check with Jenny Harris Uganda Missions trip 2012.

Thanks!
On July 18th a handful of folks and I will venture for 13 days to the bustling city of Kampala, Uganda. While there, we will partner with Abby Tracy and her husband David (missionaries who live in Uganda) to host a vacation bible school for street children at a christian camp in the outskirts of the city. Also, in coordination with the local church, we will host a men's conference in the slums and participate in community outreach efforts in a local village. Through these events it is our central desire to share the hope of Christ and encourage those who serve faithfully in this region of the world.
The passage on Sunday was about how Jesus healed a blind man by making mud to smear on a blind man's eye to restore his sight. It made me think about the importance of sight and focus in life. I was thankful to have a weekend to refocus. Just like in taking a picture, in life we need time to refocus. It made me think of the verse in Hebrews"Let us FIX OUR EYES on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith..." Hebrews 12:2
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02527020128508991635noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8908774328600356952.post-24995458078507678122011-04-04T21:23:00.000-07:002012-06-11T20:41:18.535-07:00Atlanta 2011
So this weekend I hung out with my sister Brittany who is living in inner-city Atlanta as a way to reach out to others. It is a missions trip and a bit out of my comfort at times when I visit. A cool collide in cultures and I quickly become the minority (which I secretly love). This picture was taken on a whim when Britt was goofing off as usual. However, I loved how this picture verse seems to capture this truth. P.S. The girl in the picture is my sister.

It is a picture that tells a story. This exerpt was taken by the full article at: www.starnewsonline.com/article/20091223/ARTICLES/912239986?p=2&tc=pg

“Keys With a View” was created by a an artist who enjoys using every day objects and transforms them into art. The city of Wilmington gave Stetler, the artist, the right to begin attaching keys to the fence on Princess street downtown. However, now even strangers attach keys; kids hang them with their parents; the artists even saw women in bridesmaids dresses put up keys. People connect to the project, Stetler said, because “keys are a common denominator,” she said. “Everybody, right now, has keys on them.” For the little girl with her diary, Stetler said, a key represents privacy. For the latchkey kid, it's security. For the 16-year-old who just got his license, it's freedom. For the new homeowner, it's a dream realized. The fence holds generic keys, car keys, rusty keys, shiny ones and even a hotel “key card.” There are keys for at least two structures that no longer exist – The Ice House on Water Street and Babies Hospital near Wrightsville Beach – and several “hidden” items from one of Stetler's mentors and inspirations, late artist Robert Delford Brown. There are tiny keys and a ring of giant, old-school keys affixed to the fence with a lock. A wooden key made from an oar and donated by Cape Fear Riverwatch was stolen. “There's currently a reward for it,” Stetler said. The keys come from private individuals and several drop boxes around town, while others are donated en masse by hardware stores. “Maybe I'll have everyone come down and take a souvenir,” she said. In the meantime, “I hope the public will see public art little bit differently,” she said. “It doesn't have to be a sculpture. It can be social, collaborative, participatory.” John Staton: 343-2343 On Twitter.com: @StarNewsPlay
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02527020128508991635noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8908774328600356952.post-77870942447765836972010-10-17T21:55:00.001-07:002010-10-17T22:06:15.944-07:00Hands down - it is one of my favorite trees

This is one of my favorite trees in Raleigh, NC. He
reminded us that each part of a plant's development is important. Each stage builds on the last and to rush a part of plant development leads to an unhealthy flower. It takes awhile to see a plant germinate. You just have to wait for it. The action is underground. Just wait.
